Riley Nathan McNeice born on 30.06.08 and grew his wings on 31.07.08. He will be sadly missed.
Riley left hospital after 5 days of being born with a heart defect- one that wasn't picked up. Riley battled for over 3 weeks against heart failure, but we were completely unaware. Riley had aortic stenosis where the aortic valve wouldn't let blood flow out of the heart. It was a miracle that Riley survived as long as he did undetected. Riley had open heart surgery on 28th July and the doctors were sure it had worked. 3 days later Riley was struggling to breathe so moved back to intensive care. There he arrested but they brought him back. He battled for a further 5 hours, enough to wake up and interact with me before he arrested again and passed away. Riley was so affectionate, used his heart to love so much that it couldn't cope to do it's own job as well. Riley was a victim of our health service, the problem was missed for too long. I feel so privileged to have been the Mummy of such a brave and beautiful boy and it breaks my heart to know that I will never experience any more special moments with him. I will never get to be santa, never get to hear him laugh, never see his face when he opens his presents on his birthday, go jumping in puddles, watch him try chocolate for the first time, so many things I will never get to do with him. :(
